wipedmag

Dior are the hot topic right now in the world of fashion, not just for their incredible fashion-artistry but for being the first fashion brand to ever hold a fashion show with only black-models to showcase their Summer 2021 collection.

The collection - Dior Men's Summer 2021 - has been designed by Mr Kim Jones in collaboration with Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo. Unlike Dior's usual catwalk style, they have opted for the collection to be showcased through an edited film and soundtrack as a way of reaching many people globally through a digital format to help raise awareness for #blacklivesmatter.

"Ghanaian painter represented the realisation of a long-held dream for the men's Artistic Director [Amoaka Boafo] who spent his childhood in Africa and considers the continent home. The Men's collection encapsulates tradition Ghanaian foliate textures and colours with Dior's classic high-quality and fashion-forward elegance with a knitwear predominance.

Mr Kim Jones x Amoaka Boafo Dior Mens 2021 collection showcases "a symbiotic relationship between two artists that gives birth to a collection of clothing that is morethan the sum of its parts. Two men who love Africa and its people, telling their stories in spaces these subjects rarely get to grace" - Tremaine Emory, Founder of @denimtears.
