Q&A: Polly Gotschi, owner of VITILIGLOW™

wipedmag

WIPED have been chatting to Polly Gotschi, owner of VITILIGLOW™, a makeup range specifically for those with vitiligo. Below is a Q&A with Polly on the VITILIGLOW™ range, including a bit about her own vitiligo.

Why do you think VITILIGLOW™ is important for those with vitiligo?

Polly Gotschi: “VITILIGLOW™ is important to those of us who choose to cover their patches and who want a product that is quick and easy to use, offers value for money and has been designed specifically for the skin condition, vitiligo. VITILIGLOW™ helps people feel comfortable in their own skin again.”

What is your story behind your own vitiligo and searching for beauty products to help even your skin?

Polly Gotschi: “Over the years, I've tried every type of corrective cosmetic and sunless tanner going. Some were better than others, but I found that nothing really did the job that well. Corrective creams were expensive, not to mention time consuming to apply each day. Sunless tanners turned me an orange colour and didn't do much to blend the patches. For a number of years, I used a combination of products and continued searching, albeit unsuccessfully, to find ‘the perfect product’. In the end, I decided I’d try (with the help of a chemist and manufacturer) to create an all-in-one product designed to meet the specific needs of people with vitiligo.”

How does VITILIGLOW™ work?

Polly Gotschi: “VITILIGLOW™ is an ‘all-in-one’ corrective cover for the skin. There’s no need for separate primers, setting powders or sunscreen as VITILIGLOW™ contains them all. To get the best results from VITILIGLOW™, we recommend that it is applied in thin layers to white patches of de-pigmented skin first, then blended a little over the rest of the area – that way it doesn’t have to be an exact match. VITILIGLOW™ is now available in 11 shades, which includes a ‘cool’ and ‘warm’ range for people with pink or olive skin tones.”

Do you think the beauty industry doesn’t do enough to cater for everyone and their diverse skin?

Polly Gotschi: “I think in the last few years, the beauty industry is definitely trying to cater for a wider and more diverse market. Celebrities like Katie Piper and Winnie Harlow have really helped raise the profile of people like myself who are ‘visibly different’”.

Do you think people should want to cover up their uneven skin or should they embrace it more?

Polly Gotschi: “It’s a personal choice. Some people are happy to embrace their uneven skin and we encourage body positivity at VITILIGLOW™. However, there are many people, like myself, who don’t feel comfortable enough to have their patches on show, and a product like VITILIGLOW™ can really help to give back your confidence!”
