#BlackLivesMatter isn’t a trend, it’s a movement, a fight for the end of racial injustice all over the world. Other than protesting, signing petitions, using your voice to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement, another way includes celebrating Black-owned businesses and boosting black communities.
After the recent Black Pound Day that took place on the 27th June and will hopefully continue once a month, which aims to encourage spending money at Black-owned businesses both online in stores, we at WIPED decided to share a few brands that have caught our eye.
Whilst we would have loved to list as many Black-owned businesses as possible, we decided to tailor it to the meaning of WIPED and chose brands that solely focus on either wellness, identity or beauty.

Elephant and Bamboo create handmade natural products, such as soy & coconut candles, eco-friendly diffusers, wax melts and tea-lights. The company was founded by a mother and daughter, who both have a passion for creating a beautiful atmosphere. They both loved candles but once realising that most of the candles we use aren't very environmentally friendly, they decided it was time to make their own eco-friendly, vegan and sustainable products.

Black Minds Matter UK aims to connect black individuals with free professional mental health services. They consider the wellbeing of the Black community a "state of emergency" as the "violence against black individuals and the history of systemic racism here in the UK and USA, are deeply triggering realities for the Black community to be faced with on a daily basis. Donate now and help more black people access specialised help."
Sharing and showing your support for Black-owned brands allows them to gain exposure and enables them to hopefully succeed on the same level as other non-black-owned brands. If you have finished reading this and want to share other Black-owned brands, please feel free to leave a comment, so others can see and explore. Also, check out Shop Black, a directory that allows you to discover great Black-owned businesses such as shops, restaurants, salons, events and more in the UK.
